I have had this large San Jose juniper in my yard for over 20 years. I plated it myself after we moved in to this house. I had planted about 8 junipers and had dug up all but two, this one being the largest. I neglected to get pictures of the dig, which I did by myself, but here are a few pics of before and after. When it recovers and is growing strong, it will be grafted.
Before removal sitting happily in it’s planter home with a lot of branching:
After removal I had to cut about 2/3 of the main trunk just to be able to move it myself. I am likely only going to use the two branched closest to the bottom for grafting and carve the stump:
Hopefully it will live as all of the others did. It had deep tap roots that I had to cut to get it out. All I can do is keep it in the shade and out of the wind and pray. I will update the progress in late summer to see if it has put on new foliage.
